Jonny Flynn Will Open Your Head And Shit Down Your Neck

Highlights because I couldn't find an embed link....

Flynn went 28-9-5 last night, 6 for 7 from downtown, breaking 'Melo's point record for a freshman in his first Cuse game - a 97-89 win over Siena at the Dome. Hard on officially maintained. Paul Harris had 14 and 15, White Chocolate added 19 and the other super frosh Donte Greene had 14.

Cuse shot an insane 59% last night, but the game was still a little close for my comfort.

2007-2008 Syracuse Basketball Preview: The Jonny Flynn Project

I know. I've been so wrapped up in the Packers that I neglected to realize that 'Cuse basketball starts tonight. At least they're better than the football team....

Update: Here's the game notes with everything you really need, straight from SUAthletics.com.....

Roster

What's different?

- No more Terrence Roberts and no more Demitrius Nichols. Thank God. I got really sick of those two cockfags last year, and am happy they're gone. But there's just one problem....how are we going to replace them? With Donte Greene and Sean Williams, two blue-chip prospects, that's how.

- No Andy Rautins, who blew out his knee in a pickup game over the summer. Idiot. Which presents a little of a problem with Nichols gone too - lack of perimeter shooting. Which means guys like White Chocolate (that's Eric Devendorf for the uninformed) and Paul Harris need to step it up, along with the new guys.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.....

- Jim Boeheim. He's Christ.

- Soft schedule at home until January, which is sure to piss off that cockgobbler Doug Gottlieb at ESPN.

Home and homes: 'Nova, G-Town, and South Florida. Figures that we don't get UConn in a down year twice, but we have to get G-Town.....fucking network ratings.....

So Not Hot Right Now: Buffalo Sabres

Seriously.

What the fuck???

Didn't I say in my Packers preview that I didn't want to give up on football before hockey season??? Well, right now, hockey season's barely existing for me and it's the middle of fucking November.

They're in LAST place and couldn't score on a soccer net with Dan Cloutier in goal. Jesus Christ. Get it together.

So Hot Right Now: Green Bay Packers Pt. 2

So, how about those Green Bay Packers?? Fucking. A.

Not only are they now 8-1 with a 34-0 curbstomping of the Lake Minnetonka Viqueens, but they're up to two starting RB's hurt in two weeks.

Last week, Larry Johnson. This week, Mr. Purple Jesus himself, Adrian Peterson.

Not only are we beating you, but we're literally beating on you. So fuck off, get out of our way, and enjoy the Packers ride to Super Bowl 42. Bitches.

Site News: I Know, I'm Sorry.

So I've gone 11 days or so without posting anything meaningful.

Well, there's been a lot of shit going on lately in the Life of Matt that hasn't allowed me to update as I want to.

That time is over. I'm bringing sexy back, and it's gonna be most excellent.

Gamenight: Sabres @ Bruins 11.1.07

Back on the ice tonight to finish up a 5-game roadtrip.....

- Toni Lydman is our new captain. Be right back, I'm puking up lunch. That's a joke.

- Hey, Nolan Pratt's finally signed! He won't play tonight though. Also per the News, Jaro Spacek is expected to return to the lineup tonight. He's missed the whole trip with a shoulder injury.

- Boston's actually playing with respectability recently....it's weird how that happens when Hitler's no longer your coach....

7pm start at the TD Banknorth "I Wish It Was Just Boston" Garden.

Joel Zumaya Is a Horrible Liar, Part Two

Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya is expected to be sidelined until midseason after injuring his throwing shoulder while moving items during the California wildfires. Zumaya had surgery Wednesday on his right shoulder in San Diego. His residence is listed as south of the city, in Chula Vista. Zumaya, whose 100 mph fastballs helped Detroit reach the 2006 World Series, will rest his shoulder for six weeks. He is not expected to begin a throwing program until March.Tigers said Zumaya was hurt while moving personal items, but did not release additional details.

Riiiiiiiiight. Why don't you say you hurt it jacking off or tripping over your dog or something?

And we'd believe you, if it wasn't for that whole Guitar Hero thing.....

Australians Appreciate Good Football, Traveling

An Australian man has quit his job, sold his house and moved his wife and two toddlers to Wisconsin so he can follow American football NFL team the Green Bay Packers. Wayne Scullino, 30, quit his job with a telecommunications company in Sydney. He, his wife and two boys are going to every Packers game this season and paying for it with the proceeds from the sale of their home. They plan to return to Australia when the season ends.

Fucking. Awesome. I always knew that Aussies kicked ass.

Scullino's dream to move to Green Bay started when he was 15 years old. A friend gave him a video tape of a year-old game between the Packers and the Minnesota Vikings."There was just something about the game and the atmosphere and the strategy that got me immediately," Scullino said.

Well yeah, I'm glad you got a tape of us kicking the shit out of an NFC North team. It's good press to beat up on Division III college teams (not my own....we'd beat the Packers. We're not ranked #7 in the country for nothing.) But here's the kicker, emphasis mine.....

"The thing with dreams though, in most cases at least, is that if you don't do something to make them happen yourself, they never will," he wrote. "So with that, and a whole lot of understanding from the very best, non sport loving wife in the world, we made an executive decision. A decision that flies in the face of all rational thinking but one that we should all do at least once in our lives."

Leaving a mild Aussie summer for the Frozen Tundra certainly qualifies as a decision that flies in the face of all rational thinking. Except when you're a Packers fan. God Bless you, Wayne Scullino.

Today At The Dugout: DH Land!

A rare hilarious Dugout. That's the thing since they moved to AOL....half of them still are hilarious, half of them suck because they can't swear or make (obvious) racial jokes or their other funny shit.

More on the Renteria Trade

Baseball Prospectus' Kevin Goldstein's analysis of the two guys we picked up....

“Jurrjens is just 21 years old and has already proven the ability to hold his own in the big leagues. The Curacao native isn’t especially big or projectable, but what he is now is pretty darn good, as he throws a low 90s fastball, decent slider, and deceptive changeup. Scouts do wonder is he has a big league out pitch and see him as more of a No. 4 starter type – a role the Braves could use him in immediately.

“Hernandez hit .293/.344/.391 in the Midwest League this year for his full-season debut while also leading the Midwest League with 54 stolen bases. He’s an absolutely burner on the base paths, and also a spectacular center fielder with a plus arm. Despite the numbers, he’s still more tools than performance. He needs to either hone his approach to develop into a leadoff man, or develop more power (the bat speed is there) to become a dynamic power/speed combo. Very high upside, but obviously some risk. He’ll likely begin next year at High A Myrtle Beach."

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Guess I should have found a way to still live blog this one. Packers are now 6-1, showed some semblance of a running game, and travel to Kansas City next week. It's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that we can be 10-1 going into Dallas.....

Packers. Broncos. The Live Blog. Cancelled.

Sorry. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I cannot live blog.

Breaking: Renteria Traded to Tigers

Edgar Renteria's days with the Braves have come to a close. The veteran shortstop was traded Monday to the Tigers in exchange for Gorkys Hernandez and Jair Jurrjens, who are both highly-touted prospects.

With Hernandez, the Braves are getting one of the game's most dynamic young outfielders and with Jurrjens, they are getting a quality right-handed pitcher, whose success earned him the call to the Majors in August.

Well, I kinda knew it was coming, as the Edgar to Detroit rumours had been going for a long time....

......but for WHO??? Jair and Gorkys??? I think the Braves are trying for the all Scrabble lineup, with Jair and Gorkys and Yuniel...all we need is Runlevys Hernandez and one of the 90 Molina brothers to complete it.

Chad Pennington = FAIL

NFL Week 8 Roundup: Holy Douchebaggery

- Wow. The Patriots and Bill Belichick are the biggest bunch of douchebags this side of Dane Cook. Up 45-0 and you're not only going for it on 4th and 2, but play-faking and throwing a 20-yard pass pattern? I can't wait for the karma missile (read: a really crappy team, probably in the AFC East) to take out Tom Brady's knees. It'll make you a few bucks.

- Indy won too, which means the GAME OF THE CENTURY is on for next week. Opening line? Pats by 4. And from PFT, "NFL spokesman Seth Palansky tells me via e-mail that even if the Bay Area and Houston both show Texans-Raiders, the Colts-Patriots game will be seen by 94 percent of the country." Only 94%???? What the hell is wrong with you? Are you not American?? (sarcasm added)

- Joe Nedney flipped off the crowd. You know, because the problem in San Fran is the kicker....nice job, Niners fans.

- It was a really, really, REALLY bad day for NFL football. Could we have had a worse exhibition for American football than Giants/Miami??? Even the good teams blew out their competition. The only real "game" yesterday was Jacksonville/Tampa, and their fans number in the teens so no one gave a shit.

- The three games I had on my TV yesterday? Giants/Dolphins, Bills/Jets, and said Skins/Pats game. I'm glad I spent my day doing shit around the house.

- Oh, and special live blog of the Packers/Broncos game tonight. It's something special...THE DUAL BLOG LIVE BLOG!!! I don't know if something like this has ever been done before, but what the hell, I'm trying it. I'll be doing it fully live over on HF Chat Blog (blasphemy, I know), but I'll be simulcasting over here (read: copying and pasting) every time I have a chance.
